Alternative Uses For a Tripod

There are more uses for a tripod than using it as a tripod.

Steady Cam

One of the uses is a steady cam. I was given a steady cam several years ago and later bought a gimbal. To do this, just collapse the tripod legs, place the camera on the top, and hold lightly with one hand. You could even add a handle if you have access to a 3D printer.

Monopod

Fold up all the legs on your tripod and it turns into a monopod. Of course, if you have a lighter, smaller tripod, it will be much easier to use as a monopod. If you already have a monopod, check out this article about alternative uses for it.

Small Jib

If you extend two of the legs and keep the other one short. Just place the short leg in front and tip the tripod forward and back. You can even pick it up and move it in the air to get bigger shots.

Slider/Dolly

Another use for your tripod is a slider or dolly. Obviously, it is not a slider or dolly, but it can achieve a shot similar to what either one of those would get you, but you only get a short movement. All you have to do is follow the instructions for the small jib but turn the camera sideways and move very little.
